Listed below are the Learning Design and Technology program competencies at UMGC. This page documents how I mastered the eight program competencies to earn a master’s degree in Learning Design and Technology.
Communication
I communicated clearly in writing and speaking, meeting expectations for content, purpose, organization, audience, and format. Throughout the program, I wrote research papers, held group meetings, and presented information in writing, videos, audios, and visual format to communication efficiently.
Critical Thinking and Analysis
I applied logical processes to formulate clear, defensible ideas based on the analysis of facts and ethical considerations. Using the online library of UMGC, I analyzed numerous research paper to evaluate and analyze information to help defend my thesis in writing. Using critical thinking and analysis, I developed well-reasoned ideas and make compelling conclusions.
Quantitative Reasoning
I used mathematical information, operations, and quantitative analyses to solve problems and inform decision-making. In order to measure the effectiveness of the instructional design products, it is important to understand qualitative and quantitative data. I used Microsoft Excels, Google Forms, and critical thinking to draw conclusions on the training’s effectiveness.
Leadership, Facilitation, and Collaboration
LDT 660 presented a great opportunity for me to lead and/or participate in a diverse group to accomplish projects and assignments. With my classmates, we developed a fully functioning course for a client. Throughout this course, I learned to plan and execute a project from start to finish. Moreover, I demonstrated diversity and inclusiveness in a team setting.
Learning Design and Learning Analytics
I demonstrated competency in learning theory, curriculum design techniques, teaching and instruction, and the assessment of learning and the learning process. One of the most important learning point is to utilize ADDIE model to execute a project. While planning the course, I was able to review the adult learning theories from LDT 610 to support my choices in learning activities using evidence-based theories. Moreover, I learned to deliver, implement, and evaluate the course to revise after the launch.
Technology and Media
You demonstrated competency in media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. One of the new important component in learning design is ADA competencies. In the digital word, instructional designers need to put effort to present the information that are accessible to everyone.
Project Management
I led learning design projects targeted to specific institutional needs, priorities, and strategies. Project management is on of the most crucial skills that every designer, not just instructional designers, should have. I planed, managed, designed, received feedback, revised, and implemented the project from start to finish. UMGC provided me opportunities to practice project management that are applicable to my full-time job as an instructional designer.
